Late 19th-Century Teaching

In the 19th-Century, this desk was called a secretary.

Approximately half of the school teachers at the Fairfield District School were women.

The teachers used the novel, Uncle Tom's Cabin, to educate the students in vocabulary, reading comprehension and about slavery.

At the end of the 19th-Century, teachers used the textbook, A La California, to teach California History.

The teachers taught History with several books. One was the History textbook, Lives of Our Presidents, with the United States Presidents through 1884.
